The use of video observation and recording solutions in higher education speech and language clinics has been proven to significantly improve the ability to teach and educate students in this field. Most of our installations in this area are actually replacing older analog technology which is restrictive in its use and often difficult to maintain and support.
Since our Valt video recording & observation software solution has been built from the ground up using high definition network camera technology our customers in this space not only benefit from our easy to use software but also see a dramatic improvement in the quality of the audio and video content.
Next to ease of use and video quality is the need for information security and reliability due to the fact that most of our customers must comply with HIPAA (Health Information Privacy). Valt helps keep content secure through our extensive user permission and rights management structure, video encryption, and user authentication features.
When installed, Vallt dramatically impacts the user experience by freeing up faculty and students to view live and recorded video anywhere on the network they are permitted. Departments are able to reclaim space that otherwise was dedicated to equipment or physical observation areas that were being underutilized.
Many speech and language clinics are using the built in scheduler feature of the software. Customers are able to enter their clinic schedules into the scheduler so that Valt starts recording automatically and stops after the session is over. All video recordings are cataloged with “session data” which allows users to search and find their video with ease.
In most installations customers are deploying high quality 720P PTZ IP cameras (Axis 5414e) which are wall mounted in the clinic room. We are typically combining with the camera high quality microphones and audio equipment which is powered by the POE network drop. This simplifies the installation and makes the solution more reliable and easier to support. Multiple cameras may be placed in the same room and grouped together so that recording and playback of the video is fully synchronized.
An optional feature which may be deployed is “talk back”. Talk back allows an instructor to remotely coach or assist a student clinician through their PC or MAC headset or built in microphone. The instructor simply talks into their microphone which is connected to their workstation and the audio is transmitted over the network to an earbud the student is wearing.
IVS ships our software with a Linux network video appliance (server) which includes storage. Our typical appliance ships with 16TB of storage and provides users with approximately 16000 hours of video storage. Several different server options are available depending upon the needs of the customer. Multiple servers may be configure to work together to support hundreds of cameras and users. The video servers are typically placed in the data center, network closet or even a “control room” inside of the clinic.
Customers have the option of procuring a turnkey solution from IVS, having the solution installed by their own internal IT / classroom technology group or through a 3rd party AV/IT integrator. In each case IVS works with the customer to insure a successful and quality implementation of Valt (Video Audio Learning Tool).
